I AM BACK!

This is indeed a date to remember – February 29th, 2012.

It is the day that I’ve come back to my WordPress blog. It’s been so long – two and a half years to be exact – since I made my last blog entry. A lot has happened from that time. I am now a whole new person, very different from the one who posted that entry back in August 2009.

Today, I have clear goals for this blog and where I want it to go, but we’ll take it one step at a time. No rush. We even have an extra day today.

What Really Matters In Life

In this pace that we live our lives, it’s so easy to take things for granted. So here’s a story I’ve found that I believe would make an impact on how you see things. It’s time to make a change, don’t you think?

The Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “yes”.

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, ” I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things in life. Your God, your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favourite passions: things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.

The sand is everything else: the small stuff.

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Take care of the golf balls first; the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”

Hmmm, a penny for your thoughts?

I Had My Ears Pierced…Finally!

Okay, I know…to those who know me, this may come as a surprise… and believe me, I was surprised myself!

I finally gathered enough courage to have my ears pierced.

I had one ear piercing on my left ear from way back and it was not until three weeks ago (18th of April to be exact) that I finally took it upon myself to get it over with and be done with it.

For someone who has such a great fear of sharp pointed objects needed to penetrate the skin, that include needles, syringes, and unfortunately, earrings – this decision was a difficult one. Yes, I totally abhor self-inflicted pain. I avoid it as much as I could but not this time, I guess. Don’t laugh at me, I’m serious! My skin is all goosebumps and there’s an icy shiver traveling up and down my spine whenever I see such scary stuff!

But on that fateful day of April, I took the plunge and made the decision – I’m getting my ear pierced.

So I went to Filigrenasia, looked at the shiny, shimmering, splendid and POINTED earrings, made my choice, took a deep breath, and before I knew it, I had this teeny-weeny, tugging pain at my right ear. By the way, I had both earrings pierced on my right ear – side by side. So there, it was over! Can you believe that? Just like that!

I had to admit, I wasn’t contented. Haha, how’s that?! I just had to have my left ear pierced as well!

May 1st came around, it was a holiday so I had the day off…guess where I went? Yes, I just had to go back to Filigrenasia a second time. So for the second time I looked at the shiny, shimmering, splendid and POINTED earrings, made my choice, took a deep breath, and viola, there’s goes the ouch again, but this time I knew what to expect.

So there you have it :)

And here are the photos, if you care to look at them :)

Hmmm…will I ever have the courage to get a belly button piercing? LOL, I don’t think so!

My Volunteering Hiatus

The first quarter of the year is over and done, and now it’s the middle of April. For the first quarter of 2009, I can fairly say I had a break from volunteering. Not that it was my choice but, oh well, that’s another story…

Time flies when you have things to do. I have been pretty busy these past months that I haven’t been able to keep up with my volunteer activities. I did try to manage my time wisely but there’s just a lot of things waiting to be done. You’d probably notice this in the scarcity of my blog entries, not to mention I had no postings for March!

I haven’t visited the Kinaiyahan Unahon Collective Infoshop in almost a month! I think I’ve missed out on a lot of activities already. I also haven’t done anything for the Community Empowerment Network lately. But I’m really happy the April Newsletter was a success as well as the new look for the website. I really recommend you head on over there by clicking that link :)

And speaking of the newsletter, you better check it out. Goals have been achieved, many are in progress and still others are waiting to be started on. The CEN Newsletter April 2009 summarizes the progress for the first quarter of the year as well as the financial rundown for 2008.

Things are slowing down, I think…and hopefully I will be able to volunteer my time and efforts more…and I really intend to, this time around :)
